The Second World approach addresses root causes of poverty to create lasting social change.

We've spent nearly a decade using media productions, musical events and fair trade art to help create a better world. Through long term relationships with international and local organizations, we aim to empower thousands to not only earn a living wage, but to also survive poverty, wars and natural disasters to ultimately contribute to a very important aspect often left out of the international development model: to preserve ancient cultures and fast fading indigenous ways. We have much to learn. We believe in participatory guidance of the people who live in these conditions to tell us how best to help them onto a road of ultimate self-sustainability and design a multi-tiered long term plan to each situation using the power of media, music and art to achieve economic empowerment for the poorest of the poor and crucial cultural "edu-tainment" for the conscious consumer.

The people of another so-called world, deemed "The Third World" are in fact our brothers and sisters. This is why we in the "First World" should tear down this barrier. Let's enter another, "Second World" - a place in between. In creative and unprecedented ways, let us question these labels which act as barriers in cross cultural dialogue. We are part of one world, and the problems of the world's poor are tied to practices which we have the power to change, here and now. Let's start by supporting the documentation of true sustainable development, and fair trade. Let's celebrate the stories of empowerment found all over our beautiful world. In depth documentation and learning tools will lead to increased global awareness of fair trade principals and assist in the progress of the movement - specifically in preserving the crucial principal of accountability in these business practices, and of ensuring a timeline that ends with ultimate long term self-sustainability to empower poverty stricken around the world. Fair trade has huge implications for international relations, as well as the health of our environment. The domino effect created by the principles of fair trade put into action is amazing.

At Second World, we are deeply dedicated to expanding our work to include not only our unique home of the industrial revolution and subsequent labor movement of Lowell, Massachusetts - but also to work with our international partners who have decided enough is enough! Together, we can change the current model of international development to contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.

Welcome to the Second World.
